LOWBROW GOES ON – RÓBERT BORBÁS

Róbert BORBÁS graduated from MOME with a degree in animation and now works as a graphic designer.

Seeing Eddie, Iron Maiden’s mascot, on an album cover during his childhood proved to be a formative experience. At the time of the first Lowbrow exhibition, he was still the drummer in The Sharon Tate, a metal band, and even then he was producing illustrations for musical acts such as Metallica, Kreator, Sepultura and Bring Me the Horizon. Not long after, he discovered the art of tattooing and mastered it to such a degree that he has become one of, if not the, best known Hungarian tattoo artists. People from every point on the globe make pilgrimages to Rooklet Ink, his salon in Budapest, which has a waiting list of at least a year.

He has launched his own clothing line, branded Fvneral Apparel, and the second album of his art was published last year. His graphics are horrific phantasmagorias, which, with their meticulous execution, rich symbolism and playfully drawn lines, pull the viewer into a symphonic nightmare from which everyone awakens to a memento mori.
