LOWBROW GOES ON – ARTÚR HARÁNT

The award-winning comic book artist Artúr HARÁNT is no longer inspired by storytelling through images. His evocative, psychedelic paintings and illustrations, composed like tapestries, almost hypnotize viewers. The themes of his exhibited works touch on many aspects of our world (astronomy, ornithology, paleontology, botany), sometimes mixed with mythological references and—to enhance the surreal experience—a little pareidolia.

The genre of zines (fanzines, artzines), which provide a high degree of creative freedom for contributors, plays a prominent role in his work. So much so that these publications have now taken the form of unique, mini-exhibitions that may be paged through. The illustrations balance on the boundary between graphic or applied design and fine art. The end result is difficult to categorize because it is as much art as it is design.
