Squaring the Circle

– Handbook for the museum education programs of the Deák17 Youth Art Gallery in 2015 and 2016

The semi-language book was written in Hungarian and in English.

The most important and, at the same time, the most difficult task of art education is the development of a receptive audience for contemporary arts. The Deák17 Gallery has chosen the most authentic method for this task: it exhibits art by children and youth alongside works by contemporary artists that share similar topics and are in the same creative vein. Works by the intuitively creative child, the adolescent, acquiring visual language, the young adult in the process of artistic training and the practicing artist are exhibited in a complementary manner, providing a deeper insight into contemporary visual culture. These exhibitions provide the framework for the organization of educational activities supporting the development of the creative and perceptive skills of students, teachers, parents and all others interested in contemporary visual culture.

We recommend our book to all those primary and high school teachers, who would like to enrich their daily classes with various creative methods or discover new methods of organizing knowledge. We hope that not only teachers working in art education and children with special educational needs will find it useful, but also parents and grandparents who would like to make the time spent with their children more colorful. We recommend the book for teachers, educators, parents and visual culture researchers.

The book is available to buy at Deák17 Youth Art Gallery in opening time. Price: 1500 HUF
